That matters because tokenized finance does not need every bank to build its own blockchain infrastructure from zero.
Banks can enter through shared standards, infrastructure providers and interoperable networks.
Interest is already extending beyond the largest banks
The shift is not limited to policy statements.
A 2026 community banking survey reported by the ABA Banking Journal found that 18% of surveyed community bankers expected to offer tokenized deposits within the next 12 months, while 16% expected to offer stablecoin solutions.
Most community banks still reported no immediate plans to offer either product, so this is not yet universal adoption.
But it shows that tokenized money is entering product planning at institutions well beyond the largest global banks.
That creates a different adoption path from the first generation of crypto finance.
Instead of asking every user to leave the banking system and enter a separate crypto environment, tokenized financial infrastructure can increasingly appear inside relationships customers and businesses already have.
The key shift is access
Banks already have something blockchain networks have spent years trying to acquire at scale:
accounts, businesses and established financial relationships.
A small or midsize business may already use its bank for deposits, payments, treasury operations, credit and settlement.
If tokenized money becomes accessible through that same relationship, the user does not necessarily need to become a crypto-native participant first.
That could make several operations easier to connect:
funding tokenized assets from existing banking relationships
purchasing tokenized products
receiving proceeds from a sale or redemption
moving value between traditional accounts and blockchain-based infrastructure
managing settlement through regulated financial intermediaries
The technology may remain blockchain-based while the access layer becomes increasingly familiar.
Tokenized deposits and stablecoins solve different parts of the same problem
Stablecoins are not the only model being explored.
Banks are also evaluating tokenized deposits - blockchain-based representations of commercial bank deposit money.
That creates the possibility of multiple forms of tokenized dollars operating across new financial networks.
Stablecoins may provide one form of programmable digital value.
Tokenized bank deposits may provide another, linked directly to existing deposit relationships.
The ABA's initiative explicitly covers both, indicating that the banking industry's tokenization strategy is broader than stablecoin issuance alone.
For the RWA sector, that distinction may eventually matter less to the end user than the outcome.
The practical question is whether tokenized assets can be funded, settled and redeemed through reliable financial rails.
What this could mean for RWANFTFI
For RWANFTFI, broader banking participation in tokenized money could expand the infrastructure available to future RWA products.
The opportunity is not simply that more institutions use blockchain.
The practical value would come from connecting tokenized assets to payment and settlement systems that users can actually access.
Potentially, that could mean more options for:
funding future RWA products
settling purchases and redemptions
connecting bank liquidity with blockchain-based products
reducing friction between traditional money and tokenized assets
But this remains dependent on actual integrations.
A regulatory framework by itself does not create a usable product.
Three things still determine whether tokenized banking creates real value
For broader banking involvement to translate into better RWA infrastructure, three elements matter.
Reliable funding
Moving money into a tokenized product must be predictable and accessible. If bank accounts, tokenized deposits or regulated stablecoins can connect directly to RWA infrastructure, the funding experience becomes materially simpler.
Clear asset rights
Blockchain settlement does not replace the need to know what a token represents, what legal rights it carries and how ownership connects to the underlying asset.
Workable redemption
Entering a tokenized asset is only half of the system. Users also need a reliable path back - whether through fiat money, tokenized deposits, stablecoins or another settlement mechanism.
Without these pieces, tokenization remains primarily technical infrastructure.
With them, it can become a financial product people can actually use.
From crypto access to financial access
The OCC framework and the ABA initiative point toward a wider change in how tokenized finance may develop in the United States.
The next stage does not necessarily require millions of new users to become crypto experts.
Instead, banks may increasingly connect existing customer relationships to blockchain-based forms of money.
That could expand the addressable market for stablecoins, tokenized deposits and eventually tokenized real-world assets.
For RWANFTFI, the development is relevant because future RWA infrastructure will depend not only on what can be tokenized, but on how easily users can fund, buy, settle and redeem those assets.
The technology is advancing.
Now the question is how quickly banking access turns that infrastructure into practical financial rails.
